Shanghai/Hannover. In two months’ time, the gates will be opening on the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show (MWCS) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai. From 19 to 23 September, MWCS – East Asia’s leading trade show for the sheet metal industry – will present all the latest sheet metal working, metal forming and machine tool trends and technologies. The show’s organizers are very pleased with the number of exhibitor registrations to date: “The industry response has been very strong, and the MWCS show will occupy four exhibition halls for the first time in its history. What’s more, almost all of the available exhibition space is already booked,” said Andreas Luttmann, Global Director Metal Processing at Deutsche Messe (based in Hannover, Germany). “We are confident that MWCS will continue on its upward trajectory.” Over 500 companies from 20 countries are expected to exhibit at this year’s show, which is organized by Deutsche Messe subsidiary Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai. The fact that MWCS is co-staged with seven other industrial technology shows as part of the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) means additional synergy benefits for visitors and exhibitors.
With its population of around 14 million, Shanghai is China’s biggest city. This prime location makes the MWCS show an important gateway to one of the world’s biggest markets for machine tools and related technologies. “Industry professionals from around the world come to MWCS to gain insights into current developments in the Chinese metal processing industry. The show is also a prime platform for international providers wishing to showcase their latest industrial sheet metal working solutions,” Luttmann explained. Apart from China, the Top 10 exhibiting nations are Germany, Japan, Italy, the USA, Switzerland, Belgium, Turkey, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
MWCS attracts visitors from the machine tools, automotive, railway, shipbuilding, aerospace and metal working industries. It features all the latest metalworking and sheet metal working solutions, from machine tools, sheet metal working and sheet metal production plant to tools. Laser-based metalworking systems is one of the fastest-growing display categories, attracting well-known companies such as BLM, Bodor Laser, Coherent, Han’s Laser, IPG, MAZAK, Messer, Mitsubishi, nLIGHT, Precitec, SPI and Trumpf.
The previous show in 2017 featured 478 exhibitors – including 25 percent from outside China – and occupied 29,500 square meters (about 317,500 sq. ft.) of net display space.
The other flagship shows running under the CIIF umbrella include the Industrial Automation Show (IAS), the Environmental Protection Technology & Equipment Show (EPTES), the Information & Communications Technology Show (ICTS), the Energy Show (ES), the New Energy Auto Show (NEAS), the Robotics Show (RS), the Scientific & Technological Innovation Show (STIS) and the New Material Industry Show (WMIS). Last year, the China International Industry Fair attracted 167,906 visitors from 83 countries.
